Darlington United Methodist Church is a historic church located in Darlington, Maryland. It was built in 1852, which means it was standing before the American Civil War began in 1861. The church has white siding, large windows, and many parts that are still original from when it was first built.
About Darlington United Methodist Church
Darlington United Methodist Church is part of the United Methodist Church family. It belongs to a larger group called the Baltimore Washington Conference. This church is also one of two churches that make up the Darlington Methodist Charge. The other church in this group is Dublin United Methodist Church, located in Street, Maryland.
A Look at the Church Building
The church building you see today was built in 1852. Before that, in 1832, a smaller building made of logs stood on the same spot. Over the years, the church was updated. In 1892, a bell tower (called a belfry) and an entrance area (called a vestibule) were added to the existing building.
Its Place in the Community
For many years, Darlington United Methodist Church shared its pastors with other nearby churches. Until July 2014, it shared pastors with Rock Run United Methodist Church in Level, Maryland. There was also a third sister church, Thomas Run Church, which closed its doors in 1945.
