About Darlington United Methodist Church
Darlington United Methodist Church is a special old building in Darlington, Maryland. It was built in 1852, which means it's older than the American Civil War. The church has a classic look with its white outside walls and large windows. Many parts of the building still show their original design from long ago.
This church is part of the Baltimore Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church. This is like a big family of churches in the area. Darlington United Methodist Church is also one of two churches in what's called the "Darlington Methodist Charge." The other church is Dublin United Methodist Church, located in Street, Maryland. For many years, until 2014, these churches shared pastors with another church called Rock Run United Methodist Church in Level, Maryland. There used to be a third church, Thomas Run Church, but it closed in 1945.
A Look Back in Time
The land where Darlington United Methodist Church stands has been used for worship for a long time. In 1832, a building made of logs was first built on this spot. Later, in 1852, the log building was replaced by the wooden church you see today. In 1892, a bell tower (called a belfry) and an entrance area (called a vestibule) were added to the church.
