High School Basketball
Darrell Williams played basketball at Dunbar Vocational High School in Chicago. In his senior year, he helped his team win a district title with a perfect 10–0 record. He also led them to the regional semifinals in Class 4A.
In the district championship game against Bowen, he scored 20 points. He also grabbed 20 rebounds and blocked 8 shots.
College Career
Freshman Year at Chipola College
Williams started his college basketball career at Chipola College. During his freshman season, he averaged 7.4 points and 6 rebounds per game. He helped the Chipola Indians finish third in the NJCAA national tournament. Their team had an impressive 34–2 record.
In the third-place game, the Indians played against Connors State College. Williams scored 18 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, and made 4 assists. His team won the game 102–70.
Sophomore Year at Midland College
For his sophomore season, Williams played at Midland College. He averaged almost 14 points and more than 10 rebounds per game. This is called a "double-double" when a player gets double-digit numbers in two different stats. He also shot 54.2 percent from the field.
He helped his team achieve a 30–3 record. They reached the regional finals but lost to Howard, who later became the NJCAA national champion. Williams had 13 double-doubles that season. He was considered one of the top junior college players.
Junior Year at Oklahoma State
After his sophomore year, many big universities wanted Williams to play for them. Some of these included Gonzaga, DePaul, and Kansas State. He decided to transfer to Oklahoma State for his junior season.
He played in 23 games for the Cowboys and started 12 of them. He led the team in rebounding, grabbing 7.3 rebounds per game. He also averaged 7.1 points per game.
Senior Year at Texas A&M–Commerce
Williams spent his final college season at Texas A&M University–Commerce. Playing for the Lions, he averaged 18.5 points and 12.4 rebounds per game. He recorded 23 double-doubles, which was the second-highest in NCAA Division II.
He led the Lions to a 24–8 record and won the Lone Star Conference (LSC) tournament championship. Williams was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the championship game. In that game, he scored 15 points and had 13 rebounds. He was also named the LSC Newcomer of the Year and Player of the Year. He received other awards, including the South Central region player of the year and a Daktronics first-team All-American honor.
Professional Career
After college, Darrell Williams was not chosen in the 2015 NBA draft. However, he joined the Chicago Bulls for the 2015 NBA Summer League. In 5 games, he averaged 3.8 points and 4.6 rebounds. His best game was against the Phoenix Suns, where he scored 9 points and had 13 rebounds.
In August 2015, Williams signed his first professional contract. He joined VOO Wolves Verviers-Pepinster in Belgium's Scooore League. In 10 games, he averaged 17.2 points and 10.7 rebounds.
On January 8, 2016, Williams signed with the Serbian team Partizan Belgrade. He made his debut on January 16, 2016, in the ABA League. He scored 4 points and had 4 rebounds in 14 minutes.
On July 8, 2016, Williams signed with Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Israeli Premier League. He played there until April 2017, averaging 11.7 points and 6.9 rebounds. A week later, he signed with Bnei Herzliya for the rest of the season.
In 2017, Williams was invited to another NBA Summer League, this time with the Golden State Warriors. He played in three games, averaging 3.3 points and 2.0 rebounds.
On November 6, 2017, Williams signed with the Turkish team Yeşilgiresun Belediye. The next year, on June 27, 2018, he signed with the French team ESSM Le Portel.
In 2019, Williams played for several teams. On June 11, he signed with the Puerto Rican team Atléticos de San Germán. On July 15, he joined the Italian team Vanoli Cremona. His contract was later ended, and he signed with Sigortam.net İTÜ BB in Turkey on September 23, 2019. He played only 3 games before his contract ended.
On January 7, 2020, Williams signed with the Mexican team Fuerza Regia de Monterrey. In 6 games, he averaged 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds. He left the team on January 25, 2020.
