Darren Walsh's AFL Journey
Darren Walsh started his journey in Australian rules football with the Sandringham Dragons, a junior team. This is where many young players get noticed by professional clubs.
Joining the Essendon Bombers
In 2002, Darren was chosen by the Essendon Football Club during the 2002 National draft. This draft is an event where AFL teams pick new players from junior leagues. Darren was picked as the 27th player overall in the second round. This was a big moment for him, as it meant he would join one of the most famous teams in the league.
His Time in the AFL
Darren Walsh made his debut for Essendon on 19 April 2003. He played two games in his first season with the club. Unfortunately, his season was cut short when he became unwell with glandular fever. This illness can make people feel very tired and weak.
After his first season, Darren did not play any more games for Essendon. At the end of the 2004 season, he was "delisted." This means the club decided not to keep him on their team list for the next year. Even though his AFL career was short, Darren Walsh was still part of the professional football world.
