The Dauberville Bridge was a special old bridge in Berks County, Pennsylvania. It was a concrete arch bridge, which means it had a curved shape like an arch. This bridge stretched across the Schuylkill River. It connected two areas: Centre Township and Ontelaunee Township.

This historic bridge was built a long time ago, in 1908. Sadly, it was taken down and replaced in 1991. Even though it's gone, it was important enough to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

About the Dauberville Bridge

The Dauberville Bridge was quite long. It measured about 408 feet (which is about 124 meters) from one end to the other. It was made up of four main sections, called spans. Each of these spans was about 75 feet (or 23 meters) long.

How It Was Built

The bridge was built using concrete, a strong material. It had a unique "humpback" design. This means its top surface curved upwards slightly in the middle, like a camel's hump. This design was common for some arch bridges built around that time.

The main builder was N.M. Davis. Levi H. Focht & Son were the contractors. They were the ones who managed the construction work.

Why Was It Important?

The Dauberville Bridge was considered a historic structure. It was a good example of how bridges were built in the early 1900s. Because of its historical value, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 22, 1988.

What is the National Register of Historic Places?

The National Register of Historic Places is a list of important places in the United States. These places could be buildings, sites, or structures like bridges. Being on this list means a place is special because of its history, architecture, or what happened there. It helps protect and recognize these important parts of our past.

The Bridge's End

Even though the Dauberville Bridge was historic, it was eventually replaced. In 1991, the old bridge was taken down. A new, modern bridge was built in its place to help people cross the Schuylkill River safely.
