Dave's Killer Bread is an American brand of organic whole-grain products. The company is also well known for "Second Chance Employment", which is an initiative to increase employment opportunities for people with criminal backgrounds.
History
The brand was founded in 2005 in Milwaukie, Oregon by Dave Dahl, who learned the baking trade while growing up in his family's bakery. The company expanded from 30 employees to more than 190 by 2010 and to 280 by the end of 2012. The company saw a twenty-five percent growth in increased retail sales in 2015, and has continued to grow since. The brand specializes in breads made with seeds and whole grains, including spelt and sprouted wheat, and is free of animal products and chemical additives. The products also offer high nutritional value, with ingredients packed with Omega-3s, fiber, seeds, and other organic ingredients including amaranth, barley, spelt, blue cornmeal, and pumpkin seeds. The labels report each slice contains on average anywhere from four to five grams of proteins. Dave's Killer Bread is sold and distributed in the United States and Canada. Dave's Killer Bread was paramount in introducing the organic seeded bread category and boasts one of the cleanest bread labels on the market. Each product is USDA-certified organic and Non-GMO Project Verified. Flowers Foods purchased the brand in 2015 for $275 million. Dahl reportedly received $33 million in the sale to Flowers Foods in 2015. Under Flowers Foods the brand has become the largest organic bread company in North America. Prior to the sale, Dave's Killer Bread was found in 8,000 stores, but since the sale in 2015, can be found in over 20,000.

The bread is marketed in 23 varieties and is the most popular organic sliced bread in the US. Loaves are sold in the classic "Killer Bread" and "Thin-Sliced" options. Besides the signature organic whole grain loaves, Dave's Killer Bread sells breakfast breads, English muffins, bagels, buns, and organic snack bars. The company also sells "Snack Bites" which are sold in the baked and crunchy variety, where there are currently 6 unique flavor options.
