David J. Arnold Jr. (born December 7, 1971 – died January 17, 2021) was an important politician in Pennsylvania. He served as a state senator, representing the 48th district. This area included all of Lebanon County and parts of Dauphin and York counties. Mr. Arnold was a member of the Republican Party. Before becoming a senator, he worked as the top prosecutor, known as the district attorney, for Lebanon County. He was a senator from January 2020 until he passed away in January 2021.

About David Arnold's Life

David Arnold lived in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania his whole life. He finished high school at Cedar Crest High School in 1989. After that, he studied criminal justice at Kutztown University. He then went to Widener University School of Law, graduating in 1996. Soon after, he passed the bar exam, which allowed him to become a lawyer.

In late 2019, David Arnold was diagnosed with a serious brain tumor. He had surgery to remove it and doctors thought he would make a full recovery. Sadly, he passed away at his home on January 17, 2021, at the age of 49.

Serving as District Attorney

David Arnold worked in the district attorney's office from 1997 to 2002. A district attorney is the chief prosecutor for a local government area. After working in private law for four years, he was elected as the district attorney for Lebanon County in 2005. He held this important role for many years. From 2016 to 2017, he was also the president of the Pennsylvania District Attorney's Association. This shows he was a respected leader among other prosecutors.

Becoming a Pennsylvania State Senator

In September 2019, the state senator for Pennsylvania's 48th district resigned. This meant a special election was needed to fill the spot. David Arnold announced in October 2019 that he wanted to run for the position as a Republican. He was chosen by his party to be their candidate.

On January 14, 2020, David Arnold won the special election. He beat his opponent, Michael Schroeder, by a large number of votes. He officially became a state senator on January 29, 2020. As a senator, he worked to represent the people of his district in the state government.

In December 2020, Senator Arnold joined 74 other members of Pennsylvania's government. They signed a letter to the U.S. Congress. The letter asked for a review of the 2020 presidential election process. He also signed another letter to the state's attorney general, asking for a review of state policies during the election.
