Dave Ellis is an American musician who plays the saxophone. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, which is a busy part of California. Dave became well-known in the 1990s when he played with guitarist Charlie Hunter's band. Since then, he has also worked with Bob Weir from the band Grateful Dead and with flugelhorn player Dmitri Matheny.

Dave Ellis has also recorded his own music as a bandleader. This means he leads his own musical group. His album called State of Mind (released in 2003) won an award in 2004 for being an "Outstanding Album" at the California Music Awards.

Dave also has a sister named Zoe Ellis. They have worked together on music projects under the name ZADELL.
