Who Was Dave Toschi?
Early Life and Military Service
Dave Toschi was born in San Francisco, California. His family was Italian-American. He went to Galileo High School. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean War and left the army in 1952.
Becoming a Police Detective
After his time in the army, Toschi returned to San Francisco. He joined the San Francisco Police Department in 1953. He worked there until 1985. From 1966 to 1978, he was a detective in the homicide unit. This unit investigates serious crimes like murders.
The Zodiac Killer Case
Dave Toschi is most famous for his work on the Zodiac Killer case. The Zodiac Killer was a mysterious criminal who committed several murders in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The killer sent strange letters and codes to the police and newspapers.
Toschi and his partner, Inspector Bill Armstrong, started working on the case. This was after a taxi driver named Paul Stine was murdered. The Zodiac Killer case became very famous. It was also very frustrating because the killer was never caught.
