David Armstrong Extreme Park

The David Armstrong Extreme Park is a super cool public skatepark in Louisville, Kentucky. It's a huge place, about 40,000 square feet, perfect for skateboarding, BMX biking, and scootering. You can find it near downtown Louisville in the Butchertown area.

This awesome park first opened its doors on April 5, 2002. It became famous across the country after being shown in a video game tour by the legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk. Local people helped design the park to make it great for everyone. The city government of Louisville owns the park, and Metro Parks helps run it.

In 2014, a small part of the park had to be taken down. This was to make space for new ramps for the Abraham Lincoln Bridge. But don't worry! The park was rebuilt even better on land right next to it. The new and improved park opened on April 14, 2015. It was named after David L. Armstrong, who was a mayor of Louisville.

In 2023, the park started closing at 11 PM each night. This was a new change, as the park used to be open all the time. The new hours help keep everyone safe and make sure the park is a fun place for all visitors. Cameras were also added to help monitor the park during its open hours.

Awesome Features at the Extreme Park

The David Armstrong Extreme Park has many exciting features for riders of all skill levels. It's known for its giant full pipe, which is 24 feet tall! Imagine riding through that!

Bowls and Ramps for Every Rider

The park also has several bowls, which are like big, smooth dips in the ground. There are:

  • Two 11-foot bowls
  • Two 8-foot bowls
  • Two 4-foot bowls
  • One 6-foot bowl

If you love ramps, you'll find a 12-foot wooden vert ramp. It even has a 13-foot extension for extra height!

Street Course and Other Fun Spots

For those who enjoy street-style riding, the park offers a cool street course. You'll also find:

  • Fun boxes
  • A 6-foot flat bank
  • Many ledges
  • Rails
  • Endless lines to explore

The park also has restrooms and emergency telephones for everyone's convenience and safety.
