David William Maurice Boyle, 9th Earl of Glasgow, was an important British nobleman and a Royal Navy officer. He was born on July 24, 1910, and passed away on June 8, 1984. As the 9th Earl of Glasgow, he held a special title in the British nobility. He was also the Chief of the Name and Arms of Boyle, which means he was the leader of the Boyle family clan.
David Boyle served bravely in the Royal Navy and reached the high rank of Rear Admiral. He played a part in World War II, where he was recognized for his courage.

David Boyle started his journey by studying at Eton College. After his studies, he joined the Royal Navy, which is the United Kingdom's navy.
Serving in World War II
During the Second World War, David Boyle was an active officer. He showed great bravery and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. This medal is given for acts of courage during military operations.
By the end of the war, he had become a commander. He was in charge of a ship named HMS Actaeon, which was a type of warship called a sloop.
Rising Through the Ranks
David Boyle continued to advance in his naval career. In 1952, he was promoted to Captain. He then held several important positions:
- In March 1957, he became the Captain of the Fleet for the Home Fleet. This meant he was a senior officer helping to manage a large group of naval ships.
- In September 1959, he became the Commodore of the Royal Naval Barracks, Portsmouth. This was a key role at a major naval base.
- In July 1961, he was appointed Flag Officer, Malta. This put him in charge of naval operations and facilities in Malta.
He retired from the Royal Navy in July 1963, having achieved the rank of Rear Admiral.
His Family Life
In 1937, David Boyle married Dorothea Lyle. They had three children together:
- Patrick Robin Archibald Boyle, who later became the 10th Earl of Glasgow.
- Lady Sarah Dorothea Boyle.
- Lady Nichola Jane Eleanora Boyle.
He later married Ursula Vanda Maud Vivian in 1962.
