David John Carnegie, 10th Earl of Northesk (born 1865 – died 1921) was a Scottish nobleman and politician. He was known as a representative peer for Scotland. This meant he was chosen by other Scottish nobles to represent them in the British Parliament.

Early Life

David Carnegie was born on December 1, 1865. He was the oldest son of George Carnegie, 9th Earl of Northesk. His mother was Elizabeth Georgina Frances Elliot. David had a sister named Helen and two younger brothers, Douglas and Ian.

His Public Life

Lord Northesk had a career in public service. From 1889 to 1891, and again in 1895, he worked as an aide-de-camp for the Governor of Victoria. An aide-de-camp is like a personal assistant to a high-ranking official.

He also served as a Representative Peer for Scotland. He was a member of the Conservative political party. He held this important role from October 5, 1900, until his death in 1921.

His Family Life

David Carnegie married Elizabeth Boyle Hallowes on February 3, 1894. Elizabeth was the daughter of Major-General George Skene Hallowes. David and Elizabeth had two children together:

Lord Northesk passed away on December 5, 1921, when he was 56 years old. His only son, David, took over his title as the 11th Earl of Northesk. Later, when his son David died without a male heir, the title passed to David's nephew, John Douglas Carnegie.
