Growing Up in Antioch
David Douglas was born and grew up in Antioch, California. He lived in a tough neighborhood with his twin brother, Damion. Their parents worked hard in steel mills. The Douglas brothers often got into fights when they were young. They would stand up to bigger and older bullies at school.
Learning Martial Arts Early
Both David and Damion started learning martial arts at a young age. Their father, Danny, taught them at home. He was a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. This early training helped them become strong fighters.
David Douglas's MMA Journey
David Douglas began his professional mixed martial arts career in 2004. He quickly showed his talent in the ring.
Early Fights and Big Leagues
After winning three of his first four professional fights, David Douglas was signed by EliteXC in 2008. This was a big step in his career.
Fighting in Strikeforce
In August 2009, Douglas made his debut for Strikeforce. This was a major fighting organization. He fought on the preliminary card of Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg. He lost his first fight there by submission.
He returned to Strikeforce in 2010 for their Challengers series. He won two important fights. In October 2010, he defeated Dominic Clark by TKO (technical knockout). In February 2011, he won against Nick Gonzalez by submission. His next fight was against Caros Fodor, which he lost in the third round by TKO.
Boxing Career
Besides MMA, David Douglas also tried professional boxing.
First Boxing Matches
His first professional boxing match was in 2016 against Jasper McCargo. Douglas lost this fight in the third round by knockout. He returned to the boxing ring in 2019 to fight Chris Washington. Unfortunately, he was defeated again, this time by first-round knockout.
Life Outside the Ring
David Douglas has a unique nickname, "Tarzan." His coach, Cesar Gracie, gave him this name. It was because of David's long hair and tall, thin build. David's twin brother, Damion Douglas, is also a mixed martial artist. Damion also competed for Strikeforce. David has two children, and Damion has three.
