David James Gandy (born 19 February 1980) is a famous English model. He is also a creative director. David started his career after winning a TV modeling competition. Many people think he is the most successful male model ever. He has earned a lot of money and is the only male model to be on the Forbes list of highest-paid models more than once. For over ten years, David was the main male model for Dolce & Gabbana. Now, he is the creative director of his own brand.
In the fashion world, many male models are very thin. But David Gandy has a strong, muscular build. This actually made some fashion designers change their ideas about how male models should look! Because he became so popular, David appeared on many magazine covers. He also did many photo shoots and interviews. He has won several awards in the modeling industry. David has also worked on other projects. He writes a blog for British Vogue and reviews cars for British GQ. He has even helped create mobile apps and done charity work.

Modelling career
How David Started
David Gandy was born in Billericay, a town in Essex, England. When he was young, he wanted to be a veterinarian (an animal doctor). But his school grades were not high enough for that. So, he studied multimedia computing. He also worked for a car magazine called Auto Express. He would deliver cool cars like Porsches and Jaguars for testing.
In 2001, David was studying marketing at the University of Gloucestershire. His flatmate (roommate) secretly entered him into a modeling competition. This competition was on ITV’s This Morning TV show. David was 21 years old and he won! The prize was a contract with Select Model Management in London. The next year, he left university to become a full-time model.
His Famous Work
When David first started modeling, he worked for many different companies. These included Zara, Marks & Spencer, Hugo Boss, and H&M. In 2006, he became the main face for Dolce & Gabbana. He starred in their clothing campaigns and fashion shows every year until 2011. He worked with famous female supermodels like Scarlett Johansson and Naomi Campbell.
David is most famous for the 2007 ad campaign for Dolce & Gabbana's perfume called "Light Blue". He worked with model Marija Vujovic. This ad was super popular, getting 11 million views online. There was even a huge 50-foot billboard of David in Times Square! He also appeared in Dolce & Gabbana's 2008 calendar. David came back as the face of the "Light Blue" perfume for a second time in 2010. This time, he worked with model Anna Jagodzinska.
In 2011, Dolce & Gabbana released a special book. It was called David Gandy by Dolce & Gabbana. This big book had 280 pages of photos. It showed all the years they worked together. That same year, David was on four magazine covers. He also did five fashion photo shoots. In 2012, he was on 16 magazine covers! He also appeared in 18 fashion photo shoots. He modeled for brands like Banana Republic and Marks & Spencer. David also became a special ambassador for Johnnie Walker Blue Label drinks.
In 2013, Dolce & Gabbana launched the third "Light Blue" perfume campaign. David Gandy was in it again. The ads were filmed in Capri, Italy, with Italian model Bianca Balti. David also made a short film for a British shoe brand called Bionda Castana. It was called "David Gandy's Goodnight." Later that year, David and Jaguar released a short film called "Escapism." In it, David drove many cool Jaguar cars. In November, Marks & Spencer launched their 2013 Christmas ad. It was like a fairy tale and featured David with other famous people.

Fashion Projects
In May 2010, David Gandy spoke at the University of Oxford Union. He was part of a group discussing fashion. In 2010, he released a mobile app called "David Gandy Men's Style Guide." This app gave men advice on how to dress. It became one of the top 3 apps in the lifestyle category.
In September 2011, David became the spokesperson for Martini’s "Luck Is An Attitude" campaign. He helped launch their model search competition in Rome. He also joined a special committee for the British Fashion Council. This group helped start "London Collections: Men" in 2012. This was part of London Fashion Week.
During the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony, David Gandy was the only male model to walk on the Union Jack-shaped catwalk. He walked with famous female models like Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss. He wore a special gold suit by British designer Paul Smith. David was invited back to the Oxford Union in November 2012. He talked about "The importance of men's fashion."
In April 2013, David took part in the Vogue Festival. He was on a panel discussing body image. The panel talked about whether people are ever happy with their bodies.
Writing and Other Hobbies
Since February 2011, David Gandy has written a regular blog for British Vogue. In his blog, he writes about his modeling career, fashion, cars, and life in London. He also writes car reviews for British GQ magazine. In October 2011, the Evening Standard newspaper asked David to be a guest writer for their Men's Issue. Because of his fit body, he has also done interviews about fitness. He even released his own fitness app in December 2012.
In 2012, David got his racing license. The next year, he was invited to drive in the 2013 Mille Miglia race in Italy. This is a famous three-day race. It goes through almost 200 Italian towns. David and his co-driver, Yasmin Le Bon, were part of "Team Jaguar." They drove a classic 1950 XK120 car. Early in the race, another car pushed them off the road. This damaged their vintage car. But they got back in the race! They finished in 158th place out of 415 cars.
In September 2013, The Daily Telegraph newspaper launched a new section for men. They announced that David Gandy would be a regular writer for it.

Awards and Recognition
David Gandy has won or been nominated for many awards in the modeling world. In 2008, Spanish Glamour magazine called him the "Most Beautiful International Male Face." In June 2009, Forbes magazine said he was the world's third most successful male model. In 2010, David was the first male model ever nominated for "Model of the Year" by the British Fashion Council (BFC). ShortList magazine also named him the "Face of Today" in 2011.
The Evening Standard newspaper put David Gandy on their list of "London's 1,000 Most Influential People" in both 2011 and 2012. The BFC nominated him for "Model of the Year" again in 2012. In October 2013, Forbes updated their list of "The World's Top-Earning Male Models." David Gandy was ranked #2 on that list.
Personal life
David Gandy lives in Richmond Park. He lives with his long-term partner, Stephanie Mendoros. She is a lawyer. They have two children together. They often go on holiday to Greece every year.
