David James Gandy (born 19 February 1980) is an English model who became famous after winning a modeling contest on TV. Many people consider him one of the most successful male models ever. He has earned more money than any other male model and has appeared on the Forbes list of highest-paid models. For many years, he was the main male model for the famous brand Dolce & Gabbana.

When Gandy started his career, most male models were very thin. Gandy's muscular body was different, and it helped change the look of men's fashion. Because he was so popular, he appeared on many magazine covers and in photo shoots. He has also used his fame to do other interesting things. He writes a blog for British Vogue, reviews cars for the magazine GQ, and works with charities.

Modeling Career

How He Got Started

Gandy was born in Billericay, a town in Essex, England. When he was young, he wanted to be a veterinarian and work with animals. However, his school grades weren't high enough to study to become a vet. While studying computers at the University of Gloucestershire, his roommate secretly entered him into a modeling competition on a TV show called This Morning.

Gandy, who was 21 at the time, won the competition. The prize was a contract with a top modeling agency in London. The next year, he decided to leave the university to become a full-time model.

Famous Modeling Work

In his early career, Gandy modeled for many well-known companies. These included Marks & Spencer, Hugo Boss, and H&M. In 2006, he became the main model for the Italian fashion brand Dolce & Gabbana. He appeared in their ads and fashion shows for many years. He worked with famous female supermodels like Scarlett Johansson and Naomi Campbell.

Gandy is most famous for a 2007 ad for Dolce & Gabbana's fragrance "Light Blue." The ad was a huge success online. It even appeared on a giant 50-foot billboard in Times Square in New York City. He also appeared in a 2008 calendar for the brand.

In 2011, Dolce & Gabbana released a large photo book called David Gandy by Dolce & Gabbana. The book showed pictures from their years of working together. In the years that followed, Gandy continued to be a top model. He worked for brands like Banana Republic and was a brand ambassador for Johnnie Walker Blue Label.

In 2013, he appeared in a new "Light Blue" ad campaign. It was filmed on the beautiful island of Capri in Italy. The same year, he was in a Christmas ad for Marks & Spencer with actress Helena Bonham Carter and model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

He drove a classic 1950 XK120 car as part of "Team Jaguar." During the race, another car pushed him and his co-driver, Yasmin Le Bon, off the road, damaging their vintage car. They managed to get back in the race and finished 158th out of 415 cars.

In 2013, the The Daily Telegraph newspaper announced that Gandy would be a regular writer for their new men's lifestyle section.
