David Holmes, born on February 25, 1969, is a talented musician and composer from Northern Ireland. He started his career as a DJ, playing music for crowds. Later, he began releasing his own albums. His music often mixes different styles like electronic music, trip hop, and rock.
In the late 1990s, David Holmes also started writing music for movies. He became well-known for working with director Steven Soderbergh. Their projects together include the movie Out of Sight and the popular Ocean's movie series.
Today, David Holmes is part of a band called Unloved. Their music has been featured a lot in the TV show Killing Eve, where David also works as a composer. David Holmes' Music Journey
David Holmes started his journey as a DJ in Belfast when he was just 15 years old. His first big success was a song called "De Niro" in 1992. He created this track with his group, the Disco Evangelists.
Early Albums and Movie Music
..... He said the album was inspired by movies and their soundtracks. This love for film music became a big part of his work. One of his songs, "No Man's Land," was even used in the movie Pi.
In 1997, David Holmes released another album called Let's Get .... For this album, he recorded sounds of people dancing in the streets of New York City. The first song from this album, "My Mate Paul," became his first big hit.
Working with Movies
In 1998, famous actor and director Danny DeVito asked David to create the music for the movie Out of Sight. This was a big step for David into the world of film scores. He continued to work with director Steven Soderbergh, creating music for Ocean's Eleven in 2001.
After releasing a remix album in 2002, David Holmes released David Holmes Presents The Free Association. This album was different because he worked with other musicians as a band. Before this, most of his music was solo.
David has also remixed songs for many well-known artists. In 2008, he composed music for the "New iPhone" advertisements. His album The Holy Pictures came out in September 2008. A song from this album, "Holy Pictures," was featured in the video game Pro Evolution Soccer 2010. Another song, "I Heard Wonders," was used in the movie Cherrybomb and during the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics.
David also worked with Leo Abrahams to create the music for the film Hunger. This movie was directed by Steve McQueen and won an award for its music. In 2009, The Irish Times newspaper named him one of the "50 Best Irish Acts Right Now."
Recent Projects
David Holmes has composed music for all three seasons of the TV series The Fall. His music for the first season won an award in 2014. He also scored the film '71, which earned him another award. In 2015, David directed and wrote his own film called I Am Here.
In 2017, David produced the third album for Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, called Who Built the Moon?. In 2019, he and musician Keefus Ciancia won an award for their music on the TV show Killing Eve.
