David Honeyford is a politician from Northern Ireland. He is a member of the Alliance Party. Since 2022, he has been a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for the Lagan Valley area. Before becoming an MLA, he served as a local councillor for Lisburn & Castlereagh Council.

Getting Started in Politics
David Honeyford first became interested in politics with a party called NI21. In 2014, he joined the Alliance Party. He even became part of the Alliance Party's main decision-making group in 2016. He later stepped down from this role in 2017 after making a comment on social media that caused some discussion. He apologized for his comment.
Early Steps in Local Elections
In May 2014, David Honeyford ran in the local elections for the Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council. He was a candidate for the Killultagh area. Even though his party, NI21, faced challenges right before the election, he still received 399 votes.
Becoming a Local Councillor
David Honeyford was first elected to the Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council in 2019. He ran for the Killultagh area again. He received the most votes in his area, with 20.3% of the first choice votes. This was a big win for the Alliance Party, as it was the first time they had won a seat in the Killultagh area.
Becoming an MLA
In the 2022 Northern Ireland Assembly election, David Honeyford was elected as an MLA. An MLA is a Member of the Legislative Assembly, which means he helps make laws for Northern Ireland. He was elected for the Lagan Valley area, alongside another Alliance Party candidate, Sorcha Eastwood.
He received 4,183 first choice votes. He won the final seat in his area, taking it from another politician by 644 votes. This was one of the closest election results in Northern Ireland that year.
As an MLA, David is the Alliance Party's spokesperson for the Economy, Energy, Trade, and Investment. This means he talks about these important topics for his party. He also leads a group at Stormont (Northern Ireland's Parliament building) that focuses on sport.
Outside of Politics
David Honeyford went to Lagan College, which was one of the first schools in Northern Ireland to teach students from different backgrounds together.
Before becoming a full-time politician, he worked in construction. He was self-employed for 25 years.
He is also involved in his local community. As of January 2025, he is the Development Officer at Glenavy GAC, which is a local sports club. In 2018, he received the Club Member of the Year Award. He is also a big fan of Irish and Ulster rugby.
