David Honeyford is a politician from the Alliance Party. He has been a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for the Lagan Valley area since 2022.

Joining Political Parties
David Honeyford first got involved in politics with a group called NI21. In 2014, he joined the Alliance Party. He became part of Alliance's main Executive committee in 2016.
In February 2017, he stepped down from this role. This happened after he made a comment on social media that caused controversy. He later apologized for what he said.
David Honeyford's Political Journey
Starting in Local Politics
In May 2014, David Honeyford ran for a seat on the Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council. He was a candidate for NI21 in the Killultagh area. Even though his party faced challenges, he received a number of votes.
Serving as a Councillor (2019-2022)
Honeyford was first elected to the Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council in 2019. He represented the Killultagh area. He received the most votes in his area, which helped the Alliance Party gain a seat there. This was the first time an Alliance candidate had won in the Killultagh area.
Becoming an MLA (2022-Present)
In the 2022 Northern Ireland Assembly election, David Honeyford was elected as an MLA. He represents the Lagan Valley area, alongside another Alliance Party candidate, Sorcha Eastwood. He won his seat after several rounds of counting votes. He took the final seat in Lagan Valley from the SDLP candidate, Pat Catney.
As an MLA, David is the Alliance Party's spokesperson for important topics. These include the Economy, Energy, Trade, and Investment. He has also shared the Alliance Party's ideas for the economy of a "Shared Island." He also leads the Stormont All Party Group for Sport.
About David Honeyford's Life
David Honeyford went to Lagan College. This school was one of the first to offer "Integrated Education" in Northern Ireland. Integrated Education means that children from different backgrounds learn together.
Before becoming a politician, Honeyford worked in construction. He was self-employed for 25 years.
As of 2025, he is involved with Glenavy GAC, a local sports club. He received the Club Member of the Year Award in 2018. He is also a big fan of Irish and Ulster rugby.
