Sian Mulholland's Journey in Politics
Sian Mulholland has held several important roles in local government and the Northern Ireland Assembly. Her political journey began in 2015.
Serving on Belfast City Council (2015-2022)
In September 2015, Sian Mulholland joined the Belfast City Council. She was "co-opted" into the council for the Ormiston area. This means she was chosen to fill a vacant spot without a public election. Before this, she worked for Naomi Long, who is the leader of the Alliance Party. Sian helped people with their problems as a caseworker.
Serving on Lisburn & Castlereagh Council (2022-2023)
While still a member of Belfast City Council, Sian Mulholland was also co-opted onto the Lisburn & Castlereagh Council. She took over a position that became open when David Honeyford was elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly.
Becoming a Member of the Legislative Assembly (2023-Present)
On April 6, 2023, Sian Mulholland officially became an MLA for North Antrim. She took over this role after Patricia O'Lynn resigned. As an MLA, she represents the people of North Antrim in the Northern Ireland Assembly.
In the 2024 general election for the UK Parliament, Sian Mulholland ran for the North Antrim seat. She finished in fourth place. She received 4,488 votes, which was 10.9% of all votes. This meant she got more votes than the candidate from the Ulster Unionist Party.
Sian Mulholland's Family Life
Sian Mulholland married Kieran Mulholland in November 2018. Kieran is also involved in politics as a councillor for the Sinn Féin party. He serves on the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council. Sian and Kieran have three children together: two sons and a daughter. Their daughter was born just five weeks before the Northern Ireland Assembly started working again.
