David Ricardo Johnson (born February 26, 2001) is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for the Memphis Hustle in the NBA G League. Before turning pro, he played college basketball for the Louisville Cardinals. The Toronto Raptors picked him in the second round of the 2021 NBA draft.

Early Life and High School Basketball
David Johnson grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. He went to Trinity High School. In his second year of high school, he scored about 10.5 points per game. He also grabbed 4.8 rebounds per game. This earned him a spot on the third team All-State.
By his junior year, he was even better. He averaged 13.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game. He was then named first team All-State. ESPN ranked him as a top four-star recruit. They also said he was the best college prospect in Kentucky.
David first decided to play for Louisville during his senior year. He later changed his mind for a short time. But he soon decided to go to Louisville after all. In his senior year, he averaged 16.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and four assists. He was named First Team All-State. The Lexington Herald-Leader also named him Player of the Year. He was the MVP of the Kentucky Sweet 16 state tournament. In the state title game, he had 22 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and four blocks. Over his four years at Trinity, he scored 1,472 points and got 719 rebounds.
College Basketball Journey
David Johnson missed the start of his first year at Louisville. This was because of a shoulder injury he got in the offseason. When he did play, he was mostly a key player coming off the bench. Sometimes, he would start games.
On January 18, 2020, he had a great game against Duke. He scored 19 points, had seven assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Louisville won that game. He started as point guard against Syracuse on February 19, 2020. He led his team with seven assists in their 90–66 win. For his freshman year, he averaged 6.3 points, 2.8 assists, and 2.8 rebounds. He played in 27 games and started four of them.
In his second year, David improved a lot. He averaged 12.6 points, 3.2 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game. After this season, he decided to enter the 2021 NBA draft. Many people thought he might be picked early in the draft.
Professional Career
Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors picked David Johnson in the second round of the 2021 NBA draft. He was the 47th pick overall. On August 8, 2021, he signed a special contract. This contract allowed him to play for the Raptors. It also let him play for their G League team, Raptors 905.
Raptors 905
On October 15, 2022, David signed another contract with the Toronto Raptors. He was then waived the same day. After this, he joined the Raptors 905 as a player connected to the main team. He played for them during the 2022–2023 season.
Memphis Hustle
On October 18, 2023, David Johnson signed with the Memphis Grizzlies. However, he was waived just three days later. On October 30, he joined the Memphis Hustle. This is the G League team for the Grizzlies. He is still playing for them. On October 16, 2024, he signed with the Grizzlies again, but was waived on the same day.

David Johnson has a cousin who also plays professional basketball. His cousin is Ray Spalding, who also played for Louisville.
