David Leslie-Melville, 8th Earl of Leven, 7th Earl of Melville (1785–1860) was an important Scottish nobleman and a high-ranking officer in the Royal Navy. He held the titles of 8th Earl of Leven and 7th Earl of Melville.
He joined the Royal Navy around the year 1800. He rose through the ranks, becoming a Rear Admiral in 1846. Later, in 1858, he was promoted to Vice Admiral.
Besides his naval career, he also served in politics. From 1831 to 1860, he was a Representative Peer for Scotland. This meant he was chosen to represent Scotland's noble families in the House of Lords in the United Kingdom. He belonged to the Tory Party.
His Family Life
David Leslie-Melville was the son of Alexander Leslie-Melville, who was the 7th Earl of Leven and 6th Earl of Melville.
In 1824, he married Elizabeth Anne Campbell. She was the daughter of Sir Archibald Campbell of Succoth, 2nd Baronet. David and Elizabeth had several children together:

After his death, his brother, John Thornton Leslie-Melville, became the 9th Earl of Leven and 8th Earl of Melville.
