David Maurice Lighty Jr. (born May 27, 1988) is an American professional basketball player. He plays for LDLC ASVEL in France. This team competes in the LNB Pro A league and the EuroLeague. David played college basketball for Ohio State University. He was known for playing many games during his college career.

High School Basketball
David Lighty played basketball at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School. In 2005, a newspaper called The Plain Dealer named him the player of the year. During his last year of high school, he scored about 22 points per game. He helped his team reach the state championship game.
College Basketball
David Lighty started his college career at Ohio State University. In his first year, he did not play much. He averaged 3.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. During the NCAA Tournament, he scored 7.0 points per game. He even made a game-tying three-pointer in a big game against Tennessee.
For his second year, David became a starter for the Ohio State Buckeyes. In December 2008, he got injured and missed the rest of the 2008–09 season. He was given a special "medical red-shirt" year. This meant he could play another year of college basketball later.
He returned for his third year in 2009–10. As a junior, he averaged 12.6 points, 3.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. In his senior year, he was recognized as one of the best players in the country.
Professional Basketball Career
After college, David Lighty was not chosen in the 2011 NBA draft. But he soon began his professional career in Europe.
Early Years in Italy and France
In July 2011, David signed a two-year contract with Bennet Cantù in Italy. He later moved to another Italian team, Guerino Vanoli Basket, for the rest of the 2011–12 season.
In August 2012, he signed with JSF Nanterre in France. He played there for the 2012–13 season. In September 2013, he briefly signed with the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA. However, he was later released from the team. He then returned to JSF Nanterre for the 2013–14 season.
Joining ASVEL Basket
On June 3, 2014, David signed a two-year deal with ASVEL Basket, another French team. In July 2016, he played for the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2016 NBA Summer League.
Later in July 2016, he signed a one-year deal with Aquila Basket Trento in Italy. He had a great game on December 18, 2016, scoring a career-high 34 points. In February 2017, he left Trento and joined Dinamo Sassari for the rest of that season.
Return to ASVEL and Continued Success
On June 14, 2017, David Lighty signed a two-year contract to return to his former club, ASVEL Basket. He has been a key player for ASVEL ever since. In June 2020, he extended his contract with the team until 2024.
He has won many championships with ASVEL. These include multiple French League titles and French Cups. He has also been named the French League Finals MVP twice.
The Basketball Tournament
David Lighty also played in The Basketball Tournament 2020. He joined a team called Carmen's Crew, which was made up of former Ohio State players. He scored 21 points in their first game.
Personal Life
David Lighty's parents are David Sr. and Emily Lighty. He has a son who was born in 2014. His son's mother is Tayler Hill, a player for the WNBA's Washington Mystics.
