David Newman (born February 4, 1937 – died June 27, 2003) was a talented American screenwriter. A screenwriter is someone who writes scripts for movies. From the late 1960s to the early 1980s, he often worked with Robert Benton. David Newman was married to another writer, Leslie Newman. They had two children together. He passed away in 2003 after having a stroke.
David Newman's Career
David Newman studied at the University of Michigan. After college, he started working at Esquire magazine. There, he met Robert Benton. Together, they wrote the movie Bonnie and Clyde. This film was a huge success and made them very popular in Hollywood.
David Newman was nominated for an Academy Award. He also won the New York Film Critics Award and the National Society of Film Critics Award. He received three Writers Guild of America Awards for his screenplays. Some of his famous works include Bonnie & Clyde and the Superman movies.
When Robert Benton started directing films, David Newman began working with his wife, Leslie Newman. They wrote several movies together.
