David Pegg (born 20 September 1935 – died 6 February 1958) was a talented English footballer. He played as an outside-left for Manchester United. Sadly, David was one of eight Manchester United players who died in the Munich air disaster on 6 February 1958.

David Pegg's Football Journey

David Pegg joined Manchester United when he finished school in 1950. He was a very promising young player. His first game for the senior team was on 6 December 1952. He was only 17 years old at the time. This match was against Middlesbrough in the Football League First Division.
Becoming a Star Player
By the time David was 20, he was a regular player for Manchester United. He helped his team win the First Division title in 1956. This was a big achievement for him at just 21 years old. The next season, he won another league title medal.
David also helped United reach the semi-finals of the European Cup. This is a major competition for top European clubs. The team also reached the FA Cup final that year. They finished as runners-up.
His Role as Outside Left
David was the main outside left player for Manchester United. He held this position for many seasons. He was a key part of the team's success. His skills were so good that after a game against Real Madrid, the Spanish team reportedly looked for a new defender just to stop him in future matches.
Playing for England
David Pegg also played for the England national football team. He made one appearance for his country in 1957. Many people believed he would become England's regular left winger. They thought he would take over from the famous player Tom Finney.
Remembering David Pegg
David Pegg's family has kept his memory alive. His sister, Irene Beevers, shared stories about him in a TV show. This documentary was called The Busby Babes: End of a Dream. It marked 40 years since the Munich tragedy.
In September 2005, his sisters and brother visited the crash site in Munich. This was on what would have been David's 70th birthday. They went to pay their respects to him.
David Pegg's Early Life
David was born in September 1935 in Highfields. This is a village near Doncaster, South Yorkshire. He was one of three children. His father, William Pegg, was a miner. He also played football well as an amateur.
David was only 22 years old when he passed away. He was one of the youngest people to die in the Munich air disaster. He is buried in Redhouse Cemetery. A special memorial chair was placed in his memory. It was first in St. George's Church in Highfields. Later, it moved to All Saints' Church in Woodlands. This church now serves both villages.
David's parents lived longer than him. His father died in 1980 and his mother in 2006. They are both buried next to him.
