David Ruggerio (born Sabatino Antonino Gambino; June 26, 1962, in Brooklyn, USA) is an American chef, author, and television personality. He became well-known in the food world during the 1990s. David Ruggerio learned his cooking skills in France. He trained at several top restaurants there, including the Hôtel Le Negresco, Moulin de Mougins, L'Auberge du Pont de Collonges, and Les Prés d'Eugénie. He worked with famous chefs like Jacques Maximin, Roger Vergé, Paul Bocuse, and Michel Guérard.
A Chef's Journey
David Ruggerio's journey to fame started when he became a chef at the famous New York restaurant, La Caravelle. He was only twenty-five years old at the time. La Caravelle was known as one of the best French restaurants in the city.
He later became the head chef at Pierre Cardin's New York restaurant, Maxim's de Paris. Here, he earned three stars from The New York Times, a very high honor for a restaurant. After that, he moved to another iconic Park Avenue restaurant called Le Chantilly. At Le Chantilly, he again received three stars from The New York Times. A famous writer, Gael Greene, even wrote an article praising his work, calling it a "Miracle on 57th Street."
Television Appearances
David Ruggerio also became a familiar face on television. He starred in a PBS cooking show called "Little Italy with David Ruggerio." Later, he had his own series on Food Network titled "Ruggerio to Go." These shows helped many people learn about his cooking style and passion for food.
