David Scondras (January 5, 1946 – October 21, 2020) was an important public servant. He was a member of the Boston City Council. He held the District 8 seat from 1984 to 1993. He was also a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Serving the Community: Political Career
Becoming a City Council Member
David Scondras first ran for City Council in 1981. At that time, all seats were "at-large." This means candidates ran to represent the entire city. He was not successful in that election.
In November 1983, Scondras ran again. This time, he won the seat for District 8. This district included areas like Back Bay and Beacon Hill. Winning this election was a big step for him.
Years in Office
Scondras was re-elected four times. Each term lasted two years. He worked on the City Council until 1993. In the November 1993 election, he was defeated. Thomas M. Keane Jr. won the election. The vote was very close, with only 27 votes separating them.

Early Life and Studies
David Scondras was born in 1946. His hometown was Lowell, Massachusetts. He went to Lowell High School. After high school, he continued his education.
He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics. This was from Harvard University in 1968. Later, he received a master's degree in economics. He got this from Northeastern University in 1974.
Teaching and Community Work
From 1968 to 1987, Scondras taught at Northeastern University. He taught mathematics and economics. In 1987, he started a non-profit group. It was called Search For A Cure. This organization worked on finding treatments for HIV.
David Scondras also wrote books. He wrote a four-book autobiography. It was titled Angels, Liars, and Thieves. These books were released from 2015 to 2017.
Later Life
David Scondras passed away in October 2020. He had been dealing with a kidney disease.
