David Boyd Teague III (born June 4, 1983) is an American professional basketball player. He is known for playing as a shooting guard. David last played for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA Development League. Before turning pro, he played college basketball for Purdue University.

David Teague's Early Basketball Days

High School Success

David Teague went to Pike High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. There, he played basketball with another future star, Chris Thomas. During his senior year in 2000–01, David was a key player. He scored about 15.3 points and grabbed 4.7 rebounds per game. After high school, he spent an extra year improving his skills at Bridgton Academy in 2001–02.

College Journey at Purdue

David Teague then joined the Purdue team for college.

Freshman Year (2002–03)

In his first year, David played in 30 games. He even started two of them. He set a new record for freshmen by making 35 three-point shots in one season. On average, he scored 5.7 points and got 2.2 rebounds per game.

Sophomore Year (2003–04)

During his second year, David started all 31 games. He was one of the top players on his team. He ranked second in scoring and rebounding. He averaged 11.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He scored ten or more points in 14 of his last 17 games that season.

Junior Year (2004–05)

In his junior year, David continued to shine. He was among the top players in the Big Ten Conference. He ranked 13th in scoring and 12th in rebounding. He was also fourth in making three-point shots. He played in 26 games, starting every one. He averaged 14.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.

Overcoming Injury (2005–07)

On November 14, 2005, David faced a big challenge. He tore a ligament in his right knee during practice. This injury meant he had to miss the entire 2005–06 season. But he worked hard to recover. He was given a special medical exception. This allowed him to play an extra year at Purdue.

He returned for his final year in 2006–07. He played in 34 games, starting all of them. He averaged 14.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. His return helped Purdue reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They eventually lost to the champions, Florida. On February 15, 2007, David scored a career-high 32 points against Indiana.

David Teague's Professional Career

After college, David Teague was not chosen in the 2007 NBA draft. However, he began his professional career overseas.

  • 2007–2008: He signed with A.E.L. 1964 B.C. in Greece.
  • 2008–2009: He moved to France to play for JA Vichy.
  • 2009–2010: In August 2009, David joined Gießen 46ers in Germany. He suffered an injury in January 2010 that ended his season. He left the team in March 2010.
  • 2010–2011: In December 2010, David signed with Flamengo Basketball in Brazil.
  • 2011–2012: On August 7, 2011, he joined Pallacanestro Sant'Antimo in Italy. In February 2012, he moved to Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in Ukraine.
  • 2012–2013: In August 2012, David signed with Peñarol de Mar del Plata in Argentina.
  • 2013–2014: In November 2013, he played briefly for Club Atlético Bohemios in Uruguay. In March 2014, he joined Cafeteros de Armenia in Colombia.
  • 2014: On November 2, 2014, David was acquired by the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. He played five games before being waived on December 20, 2014.

David Teague is the son of David Teague Jr. and Patrice Kendrick. He has a brother named Shawn and a sister named Darrice. Interestingly, he is also a cousin to NBA players Jeff Teague and Marquis Teague. David has two sons, David Teague IV and Ronald Ward, and one daughter, Ashiyah Teague. His nephews are Darrick and Erick King.
