David Thornton is an American actor. He was born on May 4, 1953. He is known for his roles in many movies and TV shows. One of his well-known roles was Earl Unger in the movie Home Alone 3. He has also appeared in John Q, Law & Order, and The Other Woman. David Thornton is married to the famous singer, songwriter, and actress Cyndi Lauper.

David Thornton grew up in Cheraw, South Carolina. His father, Robert Donald Thornton, was a professor who taught English at places like Harvard University. David studied acting at well-known schools, including Yale Drama School. He also learned acting at Lee Strasberg's Actors Studio.
David met singer Cyndi Lauper when they were working on the movie Off and Running. They got married in November 1991. They have a son named Declyn Wallace Lauper Thornton, who was born on November 19, 1997.

In 1998, he was in several films like A Civil Action (film) and The Last Days of Disco. Later, he acted in John Q (2002) and The Notebook (2004). More recently, he appeared in The Other Woman in 2014 and God Is a Bullet in 2023.
