David Frederick Ruddell Wilson (1871–1957) was an Irish Anglican priest and a hymnist. This means he was a Christian minister who also wrote religious songs called hymns. He became a very important leader, known as the Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, which is a major church in Ireland. He held this role in the Church of Ireland during the early to mid-1900s.

Early Life and Education

David Wilson was born in 1871 into a family that was closely connected to the church. He went to Trinity College, Dublin, a famous university in Ireland, to get his education.

His Journey as a Priest

David Wilson became a priest in 1895. His very first job in the church was as a junior priest, called a curate, at St. Ann's Church in Belfast.

Later, he moved to St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin. Here, he took on special roles related to the church's music and services. He was first a Succentor and then a Precentor. These roles often involve leading the choir and organizing the worship.

In 1914, he left the cathedral to become the main priest, or Rector, at Drumcondra. After that, he held a similar position as a Vicar in Donnybrook.

Becoming a Dean

David Wilson's career in the church continued to grow. Eventually, he was chosen to become the Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin. This was a very important leadership position, overseeing the cathedral and its activities. He served as Dean during the second quarter of the 20th century.

Later Life

David Frederick Ruddell Wilson passed away on November 24, 1957. He is remembered for his long service as a priest and his contributions to the Church of Ireland.
