*Club domestic league appearances and goals |
David Yelldell is a former professional soccer player from America. He was born on October 1, 1981. David played as a goalkeeper, which is the player who tries to stop the ball from going into the goal. He was born in Stuttgart, Germany. After his playing career, he became an assistant coach for Sonnenhof Großaspach. He also played for the United States national team.
David's Club Journey
David Yelldell played for several football clubs during his career. He was the main goalkeeper for TuS Koblenz for a while. However, he got a knee injury that kept him out of the last four games of the 2009–10 season. His team, TuS Koblenz, was then moved down to a lower league called the 3. Liga.
After that, he joined MSV Duisburg for the 2010–11 season. He played his first game for them in a cup match called the DFB-Pokal on August 13, 2010.
In the next season, David signed with a very big team in Germany, Bayer Leverkusen. He only played one official game for them. This game was also a DFB-Pokal match on July 30, 2011. It was a surprising loss for his team against Dynamo Dresden.
Playing for His Country
David Yelldell has a German mother and an African American father. His father was in the U.S. military. Because of this, David had dual citizenship. This meant he could choose to play international soccer for either the United States or Germany.
He was first asked to join the US team in 2011. This was for a friendly match against Argentina. A few days later, on March 29, 2011, he played his first game for the national team. This was another friendly match against Paraguay. He came into the game at half-time, replacing another player named Marcus Hahnemann. Even though no goals were scored against him while he was playing, the US team lost that game 1–0.
Life After Playing
After his playing career, David Yelldell moved into coaching. Since 2017, he has been working as a goalkeeping coach for Sonnenhof Großaspach. This means he helps train other goalkeepers to be their best.
