Playing for Clubs
David Yelldell played for several soccer clubs during his career. He started his professional journey in Germany.
Time at TuS Koblenz
David was the main goalkeeper for TuS Koblenz. This was during the 2009–10 season. Sadly, he got a knee injury. This injury kept him from playing the last four matches. His team, TuS Koblenz, was then moved down to a lower league called the 3. Liga.
Moving to MSV Duisburg
After leaving TuS Koblenz, David joined MSV Duisburg. This was before the 2010–11 season began. He played his first game for them on August 13, 2010. It was a DFB-Pokal match against VfB Lübeck.
Playing for Bayer Leverkusen
The next season, David signed with a very big club, Bayer Leverkusen. This team plays in the top German league, the Bundesliga. He made his first and only game appearance for them on July 30, 2011. It was another DFB-Pokal match. Surprisingly, his team lost 4–3 to Dynamo Dresden.
Playing for His Country
David Yelldell has a special background. His mother is German, and his father is African American. His father was in the U.S. military. Because of this, David has dual citizenship. This means he could choose to play international soccer for either the United States or Germany.
Joining the US Team
In 2011, the US team called David up for the first time. This was for a friendly game against Argentina. A friendly game is one that doesn't count for points in a league or tournament.
His First International Game
Just three days later, on March 29, 2011, David played his first game for the national team. This was another friendly match, this time against Paraguay. He came into the game at half-time, replacing another goalkeeper named Marcus Hahnemann. Even though David didn't let any goals in while he was playing, the US team still lost the game 1–0.
