Why is it Called Davy Lake?

Davy Lake was named to honor a brave Canadian hero. This naming was part of a special program by the Saskatchewan government. It was called the geo-memorial program, which ran during the 1950s and 1960s. This program aimed to remember people who served their country.

Honoring Henry William Davy Jr.

The lake is named after Warrant Officer 1 Henry William (Bill) Davy Jr. He was from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Bill Davy was a navigator during the Second World War. He flew with a group called No. 156 Squadron RAF.

Bill Davy's Service

As a navigator, Bill Davy helped guide large planes called Avro Lancasters. These planes were important for missions during the war. On June 24, 1944, his plane was shot down. This happened during a night mission over France.

Bill Davy's bravery and service are remembered through the naming of Davy Lake. His grave is in Zuytpeene churchyard in France.
