Davyhurst is known as a "locality," which is like a small area or settlement. It's found in the Goldfields-Esperance region. This part of Western Australia is well-known for its rich history. Many towns here grew because of gold discoveries.

Where is Davyhurst Located?

Davyhurst is situated in a remote part of Western Australia. It's about 120 kilometres (75 miles) northwest of Kalgoorlie. Kalgoorlie is a much larger city. Davyhurst is also southwest of a smaller town called Menzies. The area is part of the Shire of Menzies.

How Did Davyhurst Get Its Name?

The history of Davyhurst's name is quite interesting. In the year 1900, the area was first planned as a townsite. It was initially going to be called "Davyston." However, it had other names too. People sometimes called it Mace's Find or Davyton.

A local official, Warden Owen of Menzies, suggested a change. He told the department that the town was better known as "Davyhurst." This name was then officially used when the town was registered in 1901. It is thought that the name "Davyhurst" came from a miner who worked in the area.

The Davyhurst Gold Mine

Today, Davyhurst is mainly known for the Davyhurst Gold Mine. This mine is an important part of the local economy. Gold mining has been a key activity in this region for many years. It continues to be a significant industry.
