De'Alonzio Jackson (born October 31, 1988), also known as DJ Jackson, is an American athlete who is a master of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and also competes in mixed martial arts. He lives in Thailand. DJ Jackson has won many world championships in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, including titles from IBJJF, ADCC, Pan American, Brazilian National, and COPA de Bangkok. He is also known as the first African-American to become a world champion in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Early Life

Jackson was born in Maryland on October 31, 1988. He started his sports journey with wrestling when he was a student at DeMatha Catholic High School.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Career

When DJ Jackson began training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu with Team Lloyd Irvin, his coach, Lloyd Irvin, quickly noticed his talent. His coach encouraged him to start competing very soon. In a short time, DJ Jackson became very successful in major competitions, winning against all his opponents. Because of his amazing athletic skills, he earned his black belt in 2012, which was less than four years after he started.

Mixed Martial Arts Career

While continuing his Brazilian jiu-jitsu training, Jackson decided to also try mixed martial arts (MMA). He competed four times between 2015 and 2016. He won all four of these fights, with two wins coming from submissions (making an opponent give up) and two from decisions by the judges.

Coaching Career

Since 2019, DJ Jackson has been working as an official coach for Brazilian jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts in Thailand. Under his guidance, his students have achieved great success. Some of his notable students include Stamp Fairtex, Arash Mardani, Reza Goodary, and Mark Abelardo. They have won many international medals in important competitions like the Siam Cup BJJ and COPA de Bangkok.
