Lloyd Irvin Jr. is a famous coach and expert in mixed martial arts (MMA) and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He is a black belt in both. He started Team Lloyd Irvin, which was the first team from outside Brazil to win a world team title in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He has coached many champions in grappling sports.
About Lloyd Irvin
Lloyd Emory Irvin, Jr. was born on May 17, 1969. He started training in boxing and wrestling when he was young, back in 1983.
After watching exciting fights by Royce Gracie in the UFC, Irvin became very interested in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He began training at a gym in Rockville, Maryland. His teachers were Mario Yamasaki and Leo Dalla.
Irvin quickly learned and earned his blue belt in just one month. He kept training hard and later opened his own academy. He used smart ways to get many students to join his new gym.
Lloyd Irvin also competed himself. He won the Master 2 World No-Gi Championship Super Heavy division in both 2008 and 2012. This is a big achievement in the world of jiu-jitsu.
Team Lloyd Irvin's Success
Lloyd Irvin became the main coach of his team, called Team Lloyd Irvin. This team focuses on Brazilian jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts. Their main training centers are in the Mid-Atlantic States of the U.S.
Many well-known grapplers and MMA fighters have trained at his academy. Some of these famous athletes include Mike Fowler, JT Torres, and Ryan Hall.
Under Irvin's coaching, his team grew to be one of the best in the sport. They have won many medals in some of the most important Brazilian jiu-jitsu championships around the world.
