How Turtles Candies Were Born
George DeMet's company became famous for creating Turtles candies. These delicious treats were first made in 1966. They are still very popular today.
Changes in Ownership
Over the years, DeMet's Candy Company changed hands several times. In 1988, a big food company called Nestlé bought DeMet's.
Later, in 2007, a company named Signature Snacks acquired the DeMet's brand from Nestlé. Around the same time, another company, Brynwood Partners, bought the "Turtles" brand. They also got the factory in Toronto, Canada, where Turtles are made.
Brynwood Partners then brought together several candy brands they owned. These included Stixx, FLIPZ chocolate covered pretzels, Treasures, and Turtles. They decided to bring back the old name, DeMet's Candy Company, for this group of brands.
In 2010, DeMet's also bought the TrueNorth brand of nut snacks. However, they sold this brand to B&G Foods in 2013.
Finally, in 2013, Brynwood Partners sold DeMet's Candy Company to Yıldız Holding. Yıldız Holding still owns DeMet's today.
