The History of DeSabla

The area we now call DeSabla has had a few different names over the years.

From Hupp to De Sabla

Originally, a post office opened here in 1909 and was called Hupp. It was named after a man named John Hupp, who owned a sawmill in the area. Sawmills are places where logs are cut into lumber.

In 1911, the name of the post office changed to De Sabla. This new name honored Eugene de Sabla. He was an important person who oversaw the building of a power generation station in this location in 1903. This station helped create electricity for people. The post office eventually closed in 1942.
