De Lassus, Missouri facts for kids
De Lassus is a small, unincorporated community located in St. Francois County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An "unincorporated community" means it's a small area that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Today, much of De Lassus has become part of the nearby city of Farmington.
The Story of De Lassus
De Lassus began to take shape in 1869. This was when the railroad tracks were extended to that area, making it a good spot for people to settle. The community was "plattted" in 1869, which means its streets and land lots were officially planned out and marked on a map.
A post office, which is a place where mail is sent and received, was opened in De Lassus in 1870. It was an important part of the community for many years, helping people send letters and packages. The post office stayed open until 1915.
The community was named after a person named Charles de Hault de Lassus. He was an important official during the time when Louisiana was under Spanish rule.
