John "Deacon John" Moore (born June 23, 1941) is a talented American musician. He is known for playing blues, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll music. John Moore is also a singer, an actor, and a bandleader. One of his band members gave him the nickname "Deacon."

About Deacon John Moore
John Moore grew up in the 8th Ward of New Orleans, Louisiana. He is a skilled guitar player. His sister, Sybil Kein, is a well-known scholar of Creole culture. John Moore has been a Catholic since he was born.
Early Music Career
Deacon John started playing music in New Orleans when he was a teenager. This was in the 1950s. He became a "session musician." This means he played guitar on many hit songs for other artists. Some famous musicians he worked with include Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, Lee Dorsey, and Ernie K-Doe.
His own band was called The Ivories. They played at the famous Dew Drop Inn in New Orleans. They were very popular with local fans. Sometimes, their performances were even more exciting than the national acts they opened for! Even though he was very respected by other musicians, he didn't have many hit songs under his own name. This kept him from becoming famous across the country like some of his friends.
Awards and Recognition
In 2000, Deacon John Moore was honored. He was added to the Louisiana Blues Hall of Fame. This is a special award for blues musicians from Louisiana.
He is also featured in a documentary film. It is called Going Back to New Orleans: The Deacon John Film. You can also hear his music on the concert CD, Deacon John's Jump Blues, released in 2003.
As of 2024, he is still a beloved musician in New Orleans. People love to see him perform. In 2006, he became the president of the local musicians' union. This is the New Orleans branch of the American Federation of Musicians.
In January 2008, Deacon John had a special performance. He was chosen to close the inauguration ceremony for Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. He sang "God Bless America" with the 156th Army Band. There was even a Navy jet fly-over! Later, he headlined the Governor's Inaugural Ball.
In 2008, Deacon John was honored again. He was inducted into The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. This ceremony took place at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts.
Acting Career
Deacon John Moore has also tried acting. His first movie role was in 1987. He appeared in the film Angel Heart. He didn't act in movies again until 2013. Then, he had a small part in The Last Exorcism Part II. He also appeared in a few episodes of the TV show Treme in 2010.
