Dean Arthur Deetz (born November 29, 1993) is a former professional baseball pitcher from the United States. He played for the Houston Astros in Major League Baseball (MLB). Dean was drafted by the Astros in 2014. He made his MLB debut in 2018.
Baseball Journey
Dean Deetz grew up in Nixa, Missouri. He went to Nixa High School there. After high school, he played college baseball at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College.
Playing for the Houston Astros
The Houston Astros picked Dean in the 11th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. This was a big step towards his dream of playing professional baseball.
Dean started his pro career in 2014 with the Greeneville Astros. He then played for several other minor league teams. These included the Tri-City ValleyCats and Quad Cities River Bandits in 2015. In 2016, he played for the Lancaster JetHawks and Corpus Christi Hooks.
In 2017, Dean played for the Corpus Christi Hooks again. He also moved up to the Triple-A team, the Fresno Grizzlies. After a good season, the Astros added him to their 40-man roster. This meant he was closer to playing in the major leagues.
Dean made his MLB debut on September 5, 2018. He played a few games for the Houston Astros that year. In 2019, he played mostly in the minor leagues. He was with the Gulf Coast League Astros, Corpus Christi, and Round Rock Express. Dean became a free agent in 2020.
Playing in Independent Leagues
After his time with the Astros, Dean played for independent baseball teams. These leagues are not part of Major League Baseball.
On May 17, 2021, Dean signed with the Kansas City Monarchs. This team is part of the American Association of Professional Baseball. He played in two games for them before being released on June 1.
In 2022, Dean signed with the Sioux Falls Canaries. They are also in the American Association of Professional Baseball. He pitched in two games for the Canaries. Dean was released by the team on June 4, 2022.
