Dean Lewis (born October 21, 1987) is a popular singer and songwriter from Australia. His full name is Dean Lewis Grant Loaney. He is known for writing and singing emotional pop songs.
Some of his most famous songs include "Waves" (2016), "Be Alright" (2018), and "How Do I Say Goodbye" (2022). These songs have become huge hits around the world. "Be Alright" was even number one in Australia!
Dean Lewis has released several albums. His first album, A Place We Knew, came out in 2019. He followed that with The Hardest Love in 2022, and The Epilogue in 2024.

Early Life and Music Start
Dean Lewis was born in Sydney, Australia. Before he became a singer, he was good at video games! He even represented Australia in a game called Halo 2 at the World Cyber Games in 2005.
How Dean Lewis Started Making Music
Dean Lewis decided to become a musician after watching a live concert DVD of the band Oasis in 2005. He was really inspired by their lead singers, Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher. Dean says that Noel Gallagher taught him how to write songs just by watching him.
In 2014, Dean Lewis signed his first music contract. Then, in 2016, he signed a bigger deal with Island Records and Universal Music Australia.
First Hit Songs
Dean Lewis released his very first song, "Waves", on September 30, 2016. This song quickly became popular in Australia. It was also used in many American TV shows, like Suits, Grey's Anatomy, and Riverdale.
In 2017, he released another song called "Need You Now". Soon after, he released his first mini-album, called an EP, titled Same Kind of Different. This EP also included popular songs like "Lose My Mind" and "Chemicals".
Big Success and New Albums
"Be Alright" and First Album
In June 2018, Dean Lewis released his song "Be Alright". This song became a massive hit! It was number one in Australia for five weeks in a row. It also did very well in many other countries, like Belgium, New Zealand, and the United States.
In January 2019, he released another song called "7 Minutes". His first full studio album, A Place We Knew, came out on March 22, 2019. Dean Lewis even performed his songs "Be Alright" and "Waves" at the 2019 AFL Grand Final, which is a huge sports event in Australia.
Working with Other Artists
Dean Lewis also worked with the famous Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix. They released a song together called "Used to Love" in October 2019. Dean said that he usually doesn't do collaborations, but he really enjoyed working with Martin Garrix.

On March 5, 2021, Dean Lewis released the song "Falling Up". He said this song is about how people sometimes focus on one negative comment online, even if there are many good ones.
In October 2021, he released "Looks Like Me". Then, in April 2022, came "Hurtless". On September 2, 2022, he released the very popular song "How Do I Say Goodbye".
In 2024, Dean Lewis opened shows for the band AJR on their tour. He also announced his third album, The Epilogue, which was released in October 2024.
