Deborah Erskine (born in 1990 or 1991, her maiden name was Armstrong) is a politician from Northern Ireland. She is a member of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). She first became a local councillor in 2019. Since October 2021, she has been a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Fermanagh and South Tyrone area. Deborah Erskine also speaks for the DUP about connecting with young people and new communities.

Deborah Erskine's Political Journey
From Journalist to Politician
Before she became a politician, Deborah Armstrong worked as a journalist. Her first job was as a reporter for the Ulster Herald. This is a weekly newspaper based in Omagh. After that, she became a press officer for the DUP. A press officer helps share information with the media. Later, she worked in the office of Arlene Foster, who was a well-known politician.
Serving as a Local Councillor
Deborah Armstrong was elected to the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in the 2019 local election. She represented the Erne North area. She won her seat by getting enough votes after other votes were transferred to her. Arlene Foster helped her with her election campaign.
In late 2019, Deborah Armstrong married Robert Erskine and changed her last name to Erskine. She continued to support Arlene Foster. This was even when some other DUP politicians were not happy with Foster's leadership.
Becoming an MLA
Arlene Foster announced in September 2021 that she would step down as an MLA. An MLA is a Member of the Legislative Assembly. This assembly makes laws for Northern Ireland.
In October 2021, Deborah Erskine was chosen to take Foster's place. She officially became an MLA on October 11, 2021. In her first speech as an MLA, Erskine thanked Arlene Foster. She praised Foster's hard work for the Fermanagh and South Tyrone area. Paul Stevenson took over Deborah Erskine's seat on the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council. As an MLA, Erskine is part of the Committee for Health in the Assembly. This committee looks at health issues.
In the 2022 Assembly election, Deborah Erskine was elected for a full term. She received many votes and secured her seat. In her acceptance speech, she again thanked Arlene Foster. She said Foster's dedication to the area and Northern Ireland was very important.
