Important Cases

Deepak Gupta has argued many important cases. Here are a few examples:

Helping the Supreme Court

In 2019, Mr. Gupta was asked by the U.S. Supreme Court to help them with a case. He was the first Asian-American lawyer to be asked to do this. He acted as an "amicus" or "friend of the court." This means he gave advice to the court on a case where one side wasn't fully represented. This specific case was about Social Security benefits.

Protecting Consumers

In 2021, Mr. Gupta won a big case at the U.S. Supreme Court. The case was called Ford Motor Co. v. Montana Eighth Judicial Dist.. It was about where people could sue car companies if a product caused harm. The court agreed with him, which was a win for consumers.

In 2022, he helped get a $125 million settlement for people across the country. This money came from a lawsuit he led against the federal court system. The lawsuit said that fees for accessing electronic court records were too high. This system is called PACER.

He also won a case called Expressions Hair Design v. Schneiderman. This case was about stores being able to tell customers the true cost of using credit cards. He helped businesses challenge state laws that made it hard to show these costs.

Challenging Company Rules

Mr. Gupta argued a very important case called AT&T Mobility v. Concepcion. This case was about "forced arbitration clauses." These are rules companies put in contracts. They make people solve problems in private meetings, not in court. This can make it hard for groups of people to sue companies for things like unfair pay or deceptive practices.
