The Story of Del's Lemonade
Del's was started by a person named Angelo DeLucia. He got the original lemonade recipe from his father, Franco DeLucia. Franco brought this special recipe to the United States all the way from Italy. Angelo then created a unique machine to serve their frozen lemonade.
How Del's Began
The very first Del's stand was a small cart you could push around. It opened in Cranston, Rhode Island, in 1948. Soon after, Angelo started using "Del's Trucks." These trucks could serve the drink anywhere in the state. Today, the company still uses these trucks, along with their regular store locations.
Del's in Pop Culture
In 1993, people in Rhode Island tried to choose an official state drink. Del's lemonade and coffee milk were the top choices. In the end, coffee milk was chosen as the official state beverage.
The 2011 TV movie Lemonade Mouth featured a drink called "Mel's Frozen Lemonade." The author of the book, Mark Peter Hughes, said this was a fun way to make fun of Del's.
What Flavors Does Del's Offer?
Del's has many tasty flavors of its popular frozen drink. You can find lemon, lite lemon, watermelon, peach-mango, blueberry, cherry, grapefruit, and pomegranate. There used to be a coffee flavor, but it hasn't been on the menu for many years.
