The Story of Del Amitri
How the Band Got Its Name
The band's name, Del Amitri, was chosen to be meaningless. Justin Currie, who is a main songwriter and band member, said this in 2010. He explained it was based on a Greek name, 'Dimitri'.
In 2018, he added that the name came from a movie producer. He saw a movie in 1979 and liked the producer's name, which was probably 'Dimitri-something'. Many people thought the name meant "from the womb" in Greek, but this is not true.
