Dell Demps (born February 12, 1970) is an American basketball expert. He used to play basketball professionally. Now, he works as a front office assistant for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Before joining the Timberwolves, Demps was an assistant coach for the Utah Jazz. He also worked as the general manager for the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans from 2010 to 2019. As a player, Demps played in the NBA for teams like the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, and Orlando Magic. He also played college basketball for the Pacific Tigers.

Demps played basketball in other countries too. He played in France, Greece, Croatia, Turkey, and the Philippines. Some of his international teams included Shell and 7-Up.

Life After Playing Basketball

After his playing career, Dell Demps became a coach. He was an assistant coach for the Mobile Revelers for two seasons. This team was part of the National Basketball Development League. In 2003, his team won a championship.

In 2003, Demps started working for the New York Knicks as a scout. A scout finds new players for a team. In 2005, he joined the San Antonio Spurs. He was the director of professional player personnel for five seasons. This job meant he helped manage the team's players.

During his time with the Spurs, he also worked as the general manager for the Austin Toros. He held this role for three years. On July 21, 2010, Demps became the general manager of the New Orleans Hornets.

Later, on September 25, 2020, the Utah Jazz hired Demps. He worked there as an assistant coach. In 2022, Demps joined the basketball operations team for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Dell Demps was born in Long Beach, California. He played high school basketball at Mt. Eden High School in Hayward, California.

Dell Demps is married to Anita Demps, who is a lawyer. They have three children together.

  • His son, Jourdan, went to the University of San Francisco.
  • His youngest son, Riley Demps, played college basketball at New York University. He played from 2018 to 2022. Riley now works for the Utah Jazz.
