Demetria M. Taylor (born February 28, 1973) is an American singer and songwriter. She is famous for singing Chicago blues, a style of music that started in her hometown. Music runs in her family. Her father was the famous blues musician Eddie Taylor.
Demetria's mother, Vera, was also a singer. Her uncle was the bluesman Jimmy Burns. Her brother, Eddie Taylor Jr., and step-brother, Larry Taylor, were also blues musicians. Demetria has recorded two albums with the famous Delmark Records label.

A Life in Music
Demetria Taylor was born in Chicago, Illinois. She was the seventh of eight children in a very musical family. She learned to play the drums when she was 14 years old. Her older brothers, Larry and Tim, who were professional drummers, taught her how to play.
Soon, she was performing with her family all over Chicago. She also sang in a gospel choir at her church. Her biggest musical heroes were famous singers like Etta James, Bessie Smith, Big Mama Thornton, and Koko Taylor.
Starting Her Career
When Demetria started performing on her own, she often opened for famous blues artists. She said, "It was fun for me when I first started at Buddy Guy's, opening for Billy Branch and Jimmy Johnson". After becoming popular in Chicago, she began to tour across the United States and in other countries.
Demetria believes her talent is a gift. She once said, "I put God first and everything else will work out. I feel that singing is something I was born to do."
Recording Her Albums
Bad Girl (2011)
Demetria released her first album, Bad Girl, on May 17, 2011. It featured many talented musicians, including her brother Eddie Taylor Jr. The album had 11 songs, including famous blues tunes like "All Your Love" and "Big Boss Man". She also sang a version of "I'm A Woman" and performed a duet of "Wang Dang Doodle" with the singer Big Time Sarah.
Because of this album, Demetria was nominated for a Blues Music Award in 2012. This award recognized her as a great new artist. She has performed at many big events, including the Chicago Blues Festival.
Doin' What I'm Supposed to Do (2022)
It took over 10 years for Demetria to release her second album. Doin' What I'm Supposed to Do came out on August 19, 2022. The album included songs written by her family members and other musicians. Demetria also wrote some of the songs herself.
The album featured a special guest, singer Deitra Farr. They sang a song called "Blues Early This Morning," which was written by Demetria's mother, Vera. Another song, "(Wreck On) Highway 83," was written by her father, Eddie Taylor.
Awards and Personal Life
In 2022, Demetria received the Koko Taylor 'Queen of the Blues' Award. This award is given by the Jus' Blues Foundation to honor talented female blues singers. She received the award at a special ceremony in Tunica, Mississippi.
Demetria Taylor is married and has eight children.
