Demetrius Montell Jackson Jr. (born September 7, 1994) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the University of Notre Dame. After three seasons, he was chosen by the Boston Celtics in the 2016 NBA draft. He was the 45th player picked overall.

High School Basketball Journey
Jackson played high school basketball at Marian High School. In his junior year, he was a top player. He scored about 22 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and made 4 assists per game. He helped his team win a championship.
As a senior, Jackson continued to shine. He averaged nearly 26 points per game. He became the all-time leading scorer in his county. This was a huge achievement! His amazing skills earned him a spot in the 2013 McDonald's All-American Boys Game. This game features the best high school basketball players in the country. Jackson was the first player from Northern Indiana to get this honor since 1988. In the game, he scored 5 points and showed great sportsmanship.
College Basketball Career
Jackson decided to play college basketball for Notre Dame. He played under coach Mike Brey.
Freshman Year at Notre Dame
In his first year, Jackson was a backup guard. He learned a lot from older players. He scored 13 points in a game against Santa Clara. Later, he scored a season-high 17 points against Miami. He played in 30 games, starting half of them. He averaged 6 points per game.
Sophomore Year Highlights
During his second year, Jackson really stepped up. He scored a career-high 22 points against Michigan State. He matched this score a few weeks later against Purdue. Jackson played very well in the 2015 ACC tournament. He helped his team reach the Elite 8 in the 2015 NCAA tournament. He scored 20 points in a key game against Wichita State. He averaged 12.4 points per game that season. After this successful year, he decided to return to Notre Dame for his junior season.
Junior Year and NBA Draft
In his junior year, Jackson was recognized as one of the best point guards. He was a finalist for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award. He was also on the watchlist for the Naismith Trophy. This award goes to the best college basketball player.
On March 29, 2016, Jackson decided to enter the NBA draft. This meant he would not play his final year of college basketball.
Professional Basketball Career
Starting with the Boston Celtics (2016–2017)
On June 23, 2016, the Boston Celtics picked Jackson in the NBA draft. He was the 45th player chosen. He signed with the Celtics in July 2016. In November, he played his first professional game. He scored 8 points in 11 minutes. During his time with the Celtics, he also played for their minor league team, the Maine Red Claws. The Celtics released him in July 2017.
Time with the Houston Rockets (2017–2018)
In August 2017, Jackson signed a special "two-way contract" with the Houston Rockets. This type of contract allows a player to split time between an NBA team and its G League team. Jackson was the first player in Rockets history to sign such a deal. He played for the Rockets and their G League team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. His time with the Rockets ended in January 2018.
Playing for the Philadelphia 76ers (2018–2019)
In January 2018, Jackson signed another two-way contract. This time it was with the Philadelphia 76ers and their G League team, the Delaware Blue Coats. He signed a similar deal for the next season as well.
With the South Bay Lakers (2019–2020)
In August 2019, Jackson signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, he was released in October. He then joined the South Bay Lakers, which is the Lakers' G League team.
Playing in Europe: Rytas Vilnius (2020)
In August 2020, Jackson moved to Europe. He signed with Rytas Vilnius in Lithuania. He played very well there. In October 2020, he was named the Lithuanian League MVP for September. He averaged 13 points and 8.5 assists per game. However, he ended his contract in October 2020 due to family reasons.
Joventut Badalona (2021)
On January 29, 2021, Jackson signed with Joventut Badalona in Spain. This was his last known professional team.

Personal Life
Demetrius Jackson grew up in South Bend, Indiana. He lived with different families after the age of twelve. He eventually found a stable home with the Whitfield family. Michael Whitfield was his basketball teammate. While at the University of Notre Dame, Jackson studied in the College of Arts and Letters. He also became a brand representative for Under Armour Basketball.
