Demetrius Montell Jackson Jr. (born September 7, 1994) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the University of Notre Dame for three seasons. After college, the Boston Celtics picked him in the 2016 NBA draft.

High School Basketball Star
Demetrius Jackson played high school basketball at Marian High School. When he was a junior, he scored about 22 points per game. He also helped his school win a championship. He was named to the All-State Underclass First Team.
As a senior, Jackson averaged nearly 26 points per game. He finished his high school career as the top scorer in St. Joseph County history. He scored an amazing 1,934 points!
His great playing earned him a spot in the 2013 McDonald's All-American Boys Game. This is a special game for the best high school players in the country. He was the first player from Northern Indiana to get this honor since 1988. In the game, he scored 5 points and showed great sportsmanship.
College Basketball Journey
Jackson decided to play college basketball for Notre Dame. He played under coach Mike Brey.
Freshman Year at Notre Dame
In his first year (freshman season), Demetrius was expected to be a backup player. He scored 13 points in a game against Santa Clara. Later, he scored a season-high 17 points against Miami. He started half of his 30 games and averaged 6 points per game.
Sophomore Year Success
In his second year, Jackson scored a career-high 22 points against Michigan State. He matched this score a few weeks later against Purdue. He played very well in the 2015 ACC tournament. He helped his team reach the Elite 8 in the 2015 NCAA tournament. He scored 20 points in a key game against Wichita State.
Overall, he averaged 12.4 points per game that season. He played in all 38 games for his team. After this successful year, he decided to return to Notre Dame for his junior season.
Junior Year and Going Pro
In his junior year, Demetrius was recognized as one of the best point guards. He was named a finalist for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award. He was also on the watchlist for the Naismith Trophy, an award for the best college player.
On March 29, 2016, Jackson decided to enter the NBA draft. This meant he would skip his final year of college.
Professional Basketball Career
Boston Celtics (2016–2017)
The Boston Celtics picked Demetrius Jackson as the 45th player in the 2016 NBA draft. He signed with the Celtics in July 2016. On November 6, he played his first professional game. He scored 8 points in 11 minutes. During his first season, he also played for the Maine Red Claws. This team is the Celtics' minor league team.
Houston Rockets (2017–2018)
In August 2017, Jackson signed a two-way contract with the Houston Rockets. This type of contract allows a player to play for both the NBA team and its minor league team. He was the first player in Rockets history to sign such a deal. He played for the Rockets and their minor league team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
Philadelphia 76ers (2018–2019)
In January 2018, Jackson signed another two-way contract. This time it was with the Philadelphia 76ers and their minor league team, the Delaware 87ers. He signed a similar deal for the next season too.
South Bay Lakers (2019–2020)
In August 2019, the Los Angeles Lakers signed Jackson. He later joined the South Bay Lakers, their minor league team.
Rytas Vilnius (2020)
In August 2020, Jackson signed with Rytas Vilnius in Lithuania. He played very well there. In September 2020, he was named the Lithuanian League MVP (Most Valuable Player) for the month. He averaged 13 points and 8.5 assists per game. In October 2020, he ended his contract due to family reasons.
Joventut Badalona (2021)
In January 2021, Jackson signed with Joventut Badalona in Spain.

Personal Life
Demetrius Jackson grew up in South Bend, Indiana. After the age of twelve, he lived in different foster homes. He then found a stable home with the Whitfield family, who were also the family of his basketball teammate, Michael Whitfield.
While studying at the University of Notre Dame, he was part of the College of Arts and Letters. He also became a brand representative for Under Armour Basketball and AdvoCare.
