Adriana Geertruida "Demi" Vollering (born 15 November 1996) is a professional cyclist from the Netherlands. She rides for the UCI Women's WorldTeam FDJ–Suez.

Demi is known as one of the best cyclists of her time. She has won many important races, including both one-day "classic" races and longer "stage races."

She won the famous Liège–Bastogne–Liège race twice, in 2021 and 2023. In 2023, she achieved a special "Ardennes triple." This meant she won the Amstel Gold Race, La Flèche Wallonne, and Liège–Bastogne–Liège all in the same season. She was only the second woman ever to do this!

Demi also won the Tour de France in 2023. She has won the overall title at La Vuelta twice, in 2024 and 2025.

In 2023, she was ranked number one in the world for women's road cycling. She also won the special Vélo d'Or award that year.

Demi's Early Life

Adriana Geertruida Vollering, who everyone calls "Demi," was born in Pijnacker, Netherlands, on November 15, 1996. She is the oldest of four children. Her sister, Bodine Vollering, also became a professional cyclist in 2025.

Demi's family grew flowers, and she first worked as a florist. She even got a special qualification in Floral Design.

Before 2019, Demi was a speed skater and competed nationally in the Netherlands. Speed skating was her main sport when she was younger. But in 2017, after a cycling trip with her partner, she decided to focus on cycling full-time.

Demi's Professional Cycling Career

Starting Her Professional Journey

2019: First Wins

Demi raced as an amateur in 2018. In 2019, she signed her first professional contract with the Dutch team Parkhotel Valkenburg.

Her first spring season as a pro was very good. She finished in the top 10 at the Amstel Gold Race and La Flèche Wallonne. She also got her first podium finish in a "monument" race at Liège–Bastogne–Liège.

In May 2019, Demi won her first professional race. It was a short 2.7km race at the Festival Elsy Jacobs in Luxembourg. She then won the Giro dell'Emilia in October 2019. She beat Elisa Longo Borghini in a sprint up the tough Madonna di San Luca climb.

2020: Continued Success

Even though the 2020 season was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Demi kept doing well in big races. She finished third at La Course by Le Tour de France and La Flèche Wallonne. She also had top-10 results in races like Gent–Wevelgem and the Tour of Flanders.

After two successful years, it was announced that Demi would join the UCI WorldTeam SD Worx starting in 2021.

SD Worx: Tour de France and Big Wins

2021: First Monument Victory

Demi started 2021 strongly. She had top-10 finishes at Strade Bianche and the Tour of Flanders. She then finished second at De Brabantse Pijl.

In the Ardennes classics, she was second at the Amstel Gold Race. Then, she won her first "monument" race, Liège–Bastogne–Liège. She won a sprint against four other strong riders.

Demi also won La Course by Le Tour de France that year.

In July, she finished third overall in the Giro in Italy. This was her first podium finish in a "major tour."

She also competed in the Olympic road race in Tokyo, finishing 25th.

In October, Demi won her first stage race, The Women's Tour. She took the lead by winning a 16.6km time trial stage.

2022: Tour de France Runner-Up

Demi had another strong spring in 2022. She won De Brabantse Pijl. She also finished second at Omloop het Nieuwsblad and the Amstel Gold Race. She was third at La Flèche Wallonne and Liège–Bastogne–Liège.

In the first Itzulia Women race, Demi won all three stages and the overall title. The next week, she won a stage and finished third overall at the Vuelta a Burgos.

Demi was one of the top favorites for the first women's Tour de France. She finished second overall to Annemiek van Vleuten. She also won the polka dot jersey for being the best climber.

2023: A Super Season

The 2023 season was amazing for Demi. She had one of the most dominant years in cycling history.

In March, she won her first Strade Bianche race in Italy. This race is famous for its white gravel roads.

She then won Dwars door Vlaanderen. She finished second to her teammate Lotte Kopecky at the Tour of Flanders.

The next week, Demi made history by winning the "Ardennes triple." She won the Amstel Gold Race, La Flèche Wallonne, and Liège–Bastogne–Liège all in the same season.

Demi's great form continued in Spain. At La Vuelta, she won stage 5 and took the leader's red jersey. On stage 6, she briefly stopped and was caught out by a fast pace from another team. She lost time but fought hard. She won stage 7, but still finished second overall by just nine seconds.

She then won two stages and finished second overall at Itzulia Women. She also won two stages and the overall title at the Vuelta a Burgos.

In June, Demi won her first Dutch National Road Race Championship.

At the Tour de France Femmes, Demi and Annemiek van Vleuten were the main rivals. On stage 7, a tough mountain stage, Demi attacked and gained a huge lead. She won the stage and took the yellow jersey. On the final stage, a time trial, she finished second and secured her first major tour victory.

After the Tour de France, Demi won a silver medal at the UCI World Championships road race. She also won a bronze medal at the UCI Gravel World Championships. She won a stage and the overall title at the Tour de Romandie.

Because of her amazing season, Demi was ranked number one in the world and won the prestigious Vélo d'Or award.

2024: More Stage Race Wins

Demi started 2024 without a win in the spring classics. She had several podium finishes, including third at Strade Bianche and Liège–Bastogne–Liège, and second at La Flèche Wallonne.

However, she quickly showed her strength in the Spanish stage races. She won a stage and the overall title at La Vuelta. She also won a stage and the overall title at Itzulia Women. Then, she won two stages and the overall title at the Vuelta a Burgos.

In June, Demi continued her winning streak by taking three stages and the overall title at the Tour de Suisse.

Demi was a top favorite for the Tour de France in August. She won a short individual time trial on stage 3 and took the yellow jersey. On stage 5, she crashed and lost a lot of time. Despite her injuries, she kept racing. On the final mountain stage, she attacked and won the stage. She finished second overall by only four seconds.

After the Tour de France, doctors found out Demi had been riding with a fractured tailbone from her crash.

In September, Demi won a stage and finished second overall at the Tour de Romandie. This was her last race for SD Worx.

She finished her season at the UCI Road World Championships. She won a silver medal in the individual time trial and finished fifth in the road race.

2025: New Team, New Wins

After four successful seasons with SD Worx, Demi signed a two-year contract with the French team FDJ–Suez.

She started strong with her new team. She won stage 1 and the overall title at the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana in February.

In the spring classics, she finished third at Omloop Nieuwsblad. She then won Strade Bianche for the second time. She also finished fourth at the first women's Milano–Sanremo, second at La Flèche Wallonne, and third at Liège–Bastogne–Liège.
