Demi's Early Life

Demi's family grew flowers, and she first worked as a florist. She even got a special qualification in Floral Design.
Before 2019, Demi was a speed skater and competed nationally in the Netherlands. Speed skating was her main sport when she was younger. But in 2017, after a cycling trip with her partner, she decided to focus on cycling full-time.
Demi's Professional Cycling Career
Starting Her Professional Journey
2019: First Wins
Demi raced as an amateur in 2018. In 2019, she signed her first professional contract with the Dutch team Parkhotel Valkenburg.

In May 2019, Demi won her first professional race. It was a short 2.7km race at the Festival Elsy Jacobs in Luxembourg. She then won the Giro dell'Emilia in October 2019. She beat Elisa Longo Borghini in a sprint up the tough Madonna di San Luca climb.
2020: Continued Success
Even though the 2020 season was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Demi kept doing well in big races. She finished third at La Course by Le Tour de France and La Flèche Wallonne. She also had top-10 results in races like Gent–Wevelgem and the Tour of Flanders.
After two successful years, it was announced that Demi would join the UCI WorldTeam SD Worx starting in 2021.

In June, Demi continued her winning streak by taking three stages and the overall title at the Tour de Suisse.

Despite her injuries, she kept racing. On the final mountain stage, she attacked and won the stage. She finished second overall by only four seconds.
After the Tour de France, doctors found out Demi had been riding with a fractured tailbone from her crash.
In September, Demi won a stage and finished second overall at the Tour de Romandie. This was her last race for SD Worx.
