What is the Denaʼina Center?

This huge building is about 200,000-square-foot (19,000 m2) (that's like 3.5 football fields!). It's designed for many different uses. You might find a big convention happening, a trade show where companies show off new products, or even a concert with your favorite band. It's also used for important meetings and other special events.

Honoring the Denaʼina People

The Denaʼina Center is special because it helps visitors learn about the Denaʼina people. These are the native people who have lived in the Cook Inlet Region of Alaska for a very long time. Many of the meeting rooms and other areas inside the center have traditional Athabascan names. The colors used throughout the building are inspired by the changing seasons in Alaska. Plus, the artwork inside tells amazing stories about the Denaʼina people, both from the past and today.

A Place for Big Events

The Denaʼina Center works together with two other important buildings in Anchorage: the Egan Civic & Convention Center and the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. These three places are all part of the Anchorage Convention District. They are even connected by heated sidewalks, so you can walk comfortably between them, even in winter!

One of the biggest spaces inside is the Idlughet (Eklutna) Exhibit Hall. It's a massive 47,400 square feet! This hall is perfect for large conventions and trade shows. But it's also designed to transform into a huge 5,000-seat theater. This means it can host exciting concerts, important graduation ceremonies, and many other special events.
