Denene Millner (born October 21, 1968) is an American writer, editor, and host for TV and podcasts. She has written over 30 books, including six that became New York Times bestsellers. Denene also created and leads Denene Millner Books, a special part of Simon & Schuster that publishes books. She also started MyBrownBaby.com, a popular blog that talks about being a parent and race.

About Denene Millner's Early Life
Denene Millner grew up in Bay Shore, New York. She went to Hofstra University and earned a degree in communications.
Denene Millner's Career Journey
Millner started her career as a reporter for the Associated Press, a big news agency. She also reported on politics and entertainment for the New York Daily News newspaper. Later, she became an editor at magazines like Honey and Parenting.
In 2011, Black Voices website named her one of 40 influential Black female writers. In 2017, Forbes magazine called her a top influencer in the parenting world.
Writing Many Bestselling Books
Denene Millner has written or helped write over 30 books. These include fiction, non-fiction, and books for young people. She co-authored six New York Times bestsellers. Some of these were with famous people like comedian Steve Harvey, singer Charlie Wilson, actress Taraji P. Henson, and Cookie Johnson.
Her other books include the young adult novel Miss You, Mina. She also wrote The Angry Black Woman's Guide To Life and The Vow with Angela Burt-Murray and Mitzi Miller. The Vow was even made into a TV movie called With This Ring in 2015.
Millner also wrote the book versions of the movies Dreamgirls (in 2007) and Sparkle (in 2012).
Hosting Shows and Podcasts
In 2019, Denene Millner started hosting Speakeasy with Denene. This is a podcast from Georgia Public Broadcasting. It explores Black culture, art, and entertainment. She also helped produce a TV movie called Angrily Ever After. Millner co-hosts a TV show called A Seat at the Table. This show talks about important topics for Black women. Her big novel, One Blood, came out in 2023.
Denene Millner Books: A Special Publishing House
In 2016, Denene Millner started her own special publishing group called Denene Millner Books. It was first part of Bolden Books. Three years later, she moved it to Simon & Schuster.
This publishing group releases books by African-American writers and artists. These books are for readers of all ages. Millner says her imprint is "a love letter to children of color." She wants them to see their beauty and humanity in books.
Award-Winning Books from Denene Millner Books
In 2017, Denene Millner Books published Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut. This children's book won many awards. These included a Newbery Honor, a Caldecott Medal, and two Coretta Scott King Awards.
After moving to Simon & Schuster, the imprint published more great books. Me & Mama by Cozbi A. Cabrera won a Caldecott Honor. Just Like A Mama was nominated for an NAACP Image Award.
