Broderick Stephen Harvey Sr. (born January 17, 1957) is a famous American comedian, television host, actor, writer, and producer. He is well-known for hosting popular TV shows like The Steve Harvey Morning Show, Family Feud, and Celebrity Family Feud. He also hosts the fun court show Judge Steve Harvey.

Steve Harvey started his career as a stand-up comedian in the 1980s. He later became the host of Showtime at the Apollo and starred in his own TV show, The Steve Harvey Show. He has won many awards for his work, including seven Daytime Emmy Awards and fourteen NAACP Image Awards.

Besides his TV work, Steve Harvey has written four books, including the best-selling Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man. In 2017, he started his own entertainment company, Steve Harvey Global. He and his wife, Marjorie, also founded The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation, which helps young people with their education.

Early Life and Dreams

Broderick Stephen Harvey was born on January 17, 1957, in Welch, West Virginia. He was the youngest of five children. His father, Jesse Harvey, was a coal miner. When Steve was a child, he had a stutter, but he worked hard and overcame it.

When he was in sixth grade, his teacher asked the class to write down their dreams for the future. Steve wrote that he wanted to be on TV. His teacher didn't believe him, but his father did. After Steve became famous, he sent his old teacher a TV every Christmas for the rest of her life!

Steve and his family later moved to Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Glenville High School in 1974. After high school, he attended Kent State University but left before graduating. He has shared that he regretted not finishing college, but he used that experience to motivate himself even more.

Steve Harvey's Career Journey

Starting Out in Comedy

Before becoming a star, Steve Harvey had many different jobs. He was a boxer, worked in a car factory, sold insurance, cleaned carpets, and even delivered mail.

He first tried stand-up comedy on October 8, 1985, in Cleveland, Ohio. For about three years in the late 1980s, Steve faced tough times and didn't have a stable home. He sometimes slept in his car. But he kept performing comedy, and eventually, things started to get better.

Moving to TV and Movies

In 1990, Steve Harvey became a finalist in a national comedy search. This led to him becoming the host of It's Showtime at the Apollo, a popular show where new talents performed. His success in comedy also led to acting roles. He starred in the TV show Me and the Boys in 1994, and then in The Steve Harvey Show from 1996 to 2002.

In 1997, Steve joined the "Kings of Comedy" tour with other famous comedians like Cedric the Entertainer and Bernie Mac. This tour became one of the most successful comedy tours ever! Later, a movie called The Original Kings of Comedy was made about their performances.

Since 2000, Steve Harvey has hosted The Steve Harvey Morning Show, a popular radio program that is heard across the United States.

He also appeared in several movies, including The Fighting Temptations (2003), Love Don't Cost a Thing (2003), Johnson Family Vacation (2004), and You Got Served (2004). In 2005, he voiced a character named Buzz in the movie Racing Stripes.

In 2009, Steve Harvey released his book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man. It became a huge bestseller and was even turned into a movie called Think Like a Man in 2012.

Hosting Family Feud and More

Steve Harvey started hosting Family Feud in September 2010. The show's popularity grew a lot with him as host, and he has hosted it longer than anyone else! He also hosts Celebrity Family Feud, where famous people play to win money for charities.

In 2012, Steve Harvey performed his last stand-up comedy show, ending a 27-year career as a comedian. That same year, he started his own daytime talk show, Steve Harvey.

In 2013, Steve Harvey received a special honor: a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was also nominated for two Daytime Emmy Awards, one for his talk show and one for Family Feud.

From 2015 to 2021, Steve Harvey hosted the Miss Universe pageant several times. During the 2015 pageant, he accidentally announced the wrong winner, but he quickly corrected his mistake and apologized. He returned to host the pageant many more times.

In 2016, Steve Harvey published another book called Jump: Take the Leap of Faith to Achieve Your Life of Abundance. This book was inspired by a motivational speech he gave about taking chances and using your natural talents.

He also helped create and hosted Little Big Shots, a show that featured talented children.

Steve Harvey Global and Recent Work

In 2017, Steve Harvey brought all his businesses together under one company called Steve Harvey Global (SHG). This company helps create TV shows, movies, and digital content. SHG also owns the rights to international versions of Family Feud, including Family Feud Africa, which started in 2020.

Steve Harvey also hosts a New Year's Eve special from Times Square for Fox. In 2017, he even became ordained to perform a wedding live on air during the special!

In January 2022, Steve Harvey began hosting a new court show called Judge Steve Harvey on ABC. In this show, he helps people solve their disagreements in a funny way.

In March 2024, it was announced that Steve Harvey would join Merit Street Media, a new media company started by his friend Phil McGraw.

Helping Others: Philanthropy

Steve Harvey is passionate about helping young people. He founded the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation, which offers programs and services for youth. One of their main projects is a yearly camp for children who don't have fathers, providing them with guidance and support. The foundation also works with Kent State University to offer scholarships to students.

Steve Harvey also partners with Walt Disney World Resort for the Disney Dreamers Academy. This is a special workshop held every year for 100 students, helping them learn about different careers and achieve their dreams.

In 2022, Steve Harvey received the "Man in The Mirror" Award for using his platform to do good.

Steve Harvey's Family Life

Steve Harvey has been married three times and has seven children. He has two daughters and a son from his first marriage, and another son from his second marriage. In 2007, he married Marjorie Bridges. Steve adopted Marjorie's three children, and together they have five grandchildren.

Steve Harvey is a Christian and believes his faith in God has helped him achieve his success. He also believes in religious harmony and has shared that he follows a vegan diet for health reasons.
