About Denham Island
Denham Island is a fascinating part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. It is located in the northern part of Queensland. This island is also the most southern island in the Flinders Group National Park. It sits just south of a larger island called Flinders Island.
Size and Location
Denham Island is quite small. It covers an area of about 3.9 square kilometers. That's about 390 hectares, which is roughly the size of 720 football fields! Its location near Cape Melville makes it a unique spot in the Great Barrier Reef.
An Ancient Story
The Aboriginal people from the Cooktown area have a special story about Denham Island. This story is part of their ancient beliefs, often called mythology. They believe that Denham Island was once connected to a place called Bathurst Heads.
