Denis Allen (born January 2, 1896 – died March 29, 1961) was an important Irish politician. He was born in County Wexford, Ireland.
Denis Allen became a member of the Fianna Fáil political party. He spent many years working to represent the people of Ireland.
Early Political Steps
Denis Allen first tried to become a politician in June 1927. He ran in a general election but did not win that time.
However, he tried again later that same year. In September 1927, he was successfully elected. He became a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Wexford area. A TD is like a member of parliament in Ireland.
He served in Dáil Éireann, which is the main parliament of Ireland. He was re-elected in 1932, showing people trusted him. But in the 1933 election, he lost his seat.
Returning to Dáil Éireann
Denis Allen did not stay out of politics for long. He returned to the Dáil in 1936. This happened during a special election called a by-election. A by-election takes place when a seat in parliament becomes empty between general elections.
He won this by-election on August 17, 1936. This was after another politician, Osmond Esmonde, passed away. After returning, Denis Allen was re-elected in every election that followed. He continued to serve the people of Wexford until he died in 1961.
No new by-election was held for his seat after his death.
